SAIC-GM contacted the CNIPA Patent Office (a Chinese organization). Representatives of the latter decided to register the design of the new SUV. We are talking about an electric modification of the popular gasoline Chevrolet Equinox. By the way, this is not the first time a well-known brand is trying to "green up" this particular model. He made a corresponding attempt in 2006, when the hydrogen Equinox Fuel Cell was introduced to the world. Then the car was produced in a limited series (solely for the purpose of looking at the results of the experiment, the market reaction to the novelty). This time, SAIC-GM specialists intend to release more electric SUVs. This is not surprising, given General Motors' plans to produce at least 2025 new electric cars by 30.
Recall that the petrol Equinox is available to Chinese drivers only in the 550T RS (2-liter engine, 237 "horses", 350 Nm of torque) and 535T (1.5-liter engine, 169 "horses" under the hood, torque at 250 Nm). The latest version is equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission, the first with a six-speed transmission. All-wheel drive and front-wheel drive modifications cost in the region of $ 27-38 thousand. The demand for these machines in China is impressively high, as evidenced by the sales figures (the company sold more than 6 thousand copies in 14 months).
What technical characteristics the electric SUV can boast is still unknown. What can be safely asserted is the brand's intention to change the appearance of Equinox. The car will receive a new skirt, front and rear bumpers, and fenders. As for the running lights, they will remain the same. New for Equinox is the absence of exhaust pipes, a radiator grille, roof rails (there will be sensors for the autopilot system).
